Organic Chana Dal / Split Bengal Gram
Sourced from a farmers group of Maharashtra are these organically produced split Bengal gram. It is a yellow lentil popularly known as Chana Dal in the Indian cuisine. India has been one of the leading countries in cultivating Bengal gram. An internationally popular dish, dal which is the soup form of Bengal gram along with spices is famous all over the world.
Bengal gram is closely related to the family of chickpeas which is a protein-rich supplement and is also considered as a plant-based alternative to meat protein. They are a great source of minerals like manganese, magnesium, phosphorus and thiamine. It is also known to be an excellent food for regulating cholesterol level. They can be good friends for diabetic patients as it has a low glycemic index. It’s also comfort food that is whole in itself with a mild, sweet and slightly earthy flavour.
They form a major ingredient in making curries. The flour of Bengal Gram (Besan) is also used to make spiced thin pancakes in the north which are usually consumed for breakfast. It’s surprisingly also a part of the desserts of India with the delicious lip-smacking Chana Dal Halwa.
